FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION:

Question-
Why is the first release on
FREE THE MUSIC Records
an album of Bob Dylan cover versions?

Answer-These songs are close to my heart. Some of these are songs that have been in my live acoustic shows for years. Others are songs that I have always wanted to arrange and record. Ours is a sound that   has all to do with textures and layers. We felt that recording these Dylan covers would help us translate and develop that sound to our new original music which we were planning to record next. This was the first project that we had done on our own as far as recording, producing, engineering, and mixing everything ourselves and we felt that it would be beneficial to do a loose album of covers first as a way to learn our recording techniques and warm up to the task of recording our originals. Also, I see it as an extension of the last project, TRAILS AND BRIDGES which was recorded at The Sound Lab for Rockduster Records. The large global circle of Dylan collectors (and I count myself among their ranks) reacted  favorably to that project and COVER DOWN was meant for them as well.- RL
